I have been at the same job for 6yrs. and have never received a written warning and have received excellent employee evaluations from supervisors since start of employment. Approx. 6-7 months ago I received a written warning, not from my immediate supervisor, but from the CFO via HR for supposedly not reporting information that created a "hostile work environment". When asked what I did, it was explained to me because I spoke to and checked in with a female employee who, apparently had experienced some harassment from another employee via rumor ( of which I do not know the details), I created a hostile work environment for not coming forward about details of some rumor.
Then March 26th I was written up by my immediate supervisor stating that "it was brought to their attention that I had gotten inebriated and was unprofessional toward consumers at an event our agency was facilitating, (which was at a bar). I admitted to having two beers and a glass of Ice water but emphatically denied and will continue to deny, that what was written in that warning was, in fact, not true. This write up was given at least a week and a half to 2 weeks after I helped with event and during that time I had a 2-21/2 hour offsite supervision with my immediate supervisor who never even brought any issues at all to my attention, in fact, told me that I was doing well. I refused to sign the second written warning and wrote a rebuttal letter for both warnings.
The conditions of my second warning were that I was to get a drug and alcohol assessment, of which I did, results did not support any problems with drugs or alcohol interfering with my job performance. Another condition was that I "was absolutely NOT to mention this incident to anyone on staff". (Of which I would not due to extreme embarassment but more so because I "feel" as though I am being targeted). Another condition was that I was to attend supervision with my supervisor weekly, of which at no time since this incident has he scheduled one. About 3 weeks ago, I approached HR and asked "who is responsible for scheduling supervision?" Her response was "well I would think your supervisor." Then started to say to send him an email, of which she then said, well "that should be his responsibility, if not then the warning should be torn up, what would the purpose be?" The only exception to that was last Friday he sent a calendar invite on Wednesday to meet on that Friday. At this time he proceeds to tell me that one of my employees came to he, HR and another Management person and said she did not feel safe working with me. This came about after, 3 weeks ago, she and I corresponded via txt, because she did not answer any of my calls or voice mails, yes the text ends up having a negative tone to it, I will admit I got frustrated with her. This has been an on going issue with her not answering her phone but using texting place voice calls. I had met with her the Monday following this incident and explained again that texting is not a way that we should communicate especially since it can be interpreted in any tone. After our meeting I asked if she was ok, she said, "yes, I have just been really tired lately." I supported her taking care of herself and know that I care about her and want her to be ok. Not one time did she indicate that she didn't feel safe, nor did she during the next couple of weeks imply any problems she had with me. I am really conflicted on what I can do. Every day I go into work my stomach is in knots, twice now my supervisor has threatened he could have terminated me, I share an office with him and 2 other people, he and others are consistently engaging in inappropriate conversations some around drinking and various other issues. It has also come to my understanding that other staff in the agency "heard that my friend who was at the function in February, was sloppy drunk and that I got into trouble for yelling at one of the development employees at an all together different event. So, if I am not supposed to "talk to anyone on staff about anything, how do they know this information if it did not come from management?" I am sorry this is so long. It is actually the first time I have put it all in writing. This is making me sick because I love the work I do, but I feel I have no where to go or any rights or any support. Can you help?
Thanks for your patience in reading all of this.
