A girlfriend of mine pays monthly on a house note in Texas...but the note is in her ex-husband's name. Can she walk away from the note and not be liable?
 
A girlfriend of mine pays monthly on a house note in Texas...but the note is in her ex-husband's name. Can she walk away from the note and not be liable?

My answer is based on the following assumptions:
1) She was not awarded the home in the divorce settlement.
2) Her ex has allowed her to stay in the home, after the divorce.
3) She has paid the note, but everything else remains in his name.
4) She lives in the home without benefit of a lease.

If all of the above is true, she has no legal obligation to continue paying the note.

She can walk away any time she chooses with no financial liability.
