How do I find out if a deceased family member had real estate or vehicles. NY

My father died last summer mind I havent seen him in 15 yrs. His brothers and sisters are acting like they don't know if he owned anything but they are just hiding things. How do I go upon finding out where his property is. I know he has to have a house and car at the least because he took out a home loan and car loan 4 yrs ago but I dont know with which banking instituion.
