My parents have been divorced since 1976. My father has remarried, 26 years ago. My mother has been living with someone in order to continue getting her alimony payments from my father, which is about $200.00 month.
Now that he is retired and is 76, he can really use the extra $200/month. She owns her house, no mortgage, and also rents the bottom half of the house and get $1200.00 month. My two brothers also help her financially. She drives a brand new car and lives very well.

Can my father legally try to either modify the alimony to $50.00 month?
Or, more importantly, how can he legally stop paying her? She doesn't need the money and he does.

The final divorce papers say lifetime alimony and he said he agreed to it because he felt that should be remarry since she was in her 40's. But she knew the game and instead of losing the alimony she is living with the same person over 25 years.

Can you give me any advice for my father?

Thanks.

In some states, if an ex-spouse lives with a partner who supports the household in some monetary fashion, alimony can be lowered or stopped (check out if yours is). If your dad can prove that she doesn't need the money, then have your dad file a petition in court to have the money lowered or stopped.
