How far must you be able to see a posted sign?

Hi everyone,

I made a left turn onto a street that had a posted "no left turn sign" in Santa Monica, California.
I had just made a right turn onto a street, and from there I travelled around 50 feet before making the illegal left turn. There was a posted sign, but since I had just made a right turn onto the street I wasn't able to see it until I was around 50 feet away from the sign.

Is there a specific distance regarding a sign's visibility? Thanks in advance.

Each state adopts its own version of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. This dictates size and configuration of permitted signage. Courts will entertain photographic evidence of a particular signs obstruction, however, it usually must be very blatantly obscured.
