This is a case in Michigan.

My boyfriend and I were caught shoplifting about $90 worth of merchandise at a store. It was our first time. My boyfriend has a previous police record of disturbing the peace. I've never had so much as a driving ticket. We were arrested, taken to the Police Department and finger printed then sent home. I had a bank card in my purse that I had found and forgot to get rid of, so the officer told me if it was reported stolen then I would be charged with credit card fraud. I'm 100% sure that I didn't use the card, and assuming I have yet to hear from any lawyers, the bank, the police department, I'm assuming the card was not stolen.

But I do not know what to expect still. We were told that we were banned from the store and would get a letter in the mail from corporate explaining what we owe and so on. Also, because we were arrested, we are still expecting to get something from the police with a court date, or something to tell us what our punishment is.
It has been 8 days since the incident and we've yet to hear from the store, the bank (that the lost card was from), the police, the local court, any lawyers... we've heard absolutely nothing. The stores asset protection has our phone number and address as well as the police department. We've heard nothing by phone or mail. Also, our emergency contacts have not been in touch with us about the issue, so they've not been contacted either. What is going on? Also, when we do hear from them, what kind of trouble can we expect to be in?

Thank you.

Whats going on? Well we cant say for sure. However sometimes these things can take weeks even months. They might be waiting for more info to decide what charges to file. You wont hear from bank.

8 days? In a few weeks/months you'll get a civil demand and your court papers.
