I'm wondering if anyone knows which industries review employees' background checks periodically due to the nature of their industry...e.g. financial institutions, health care industry? The reason being I read on another blog that an employee was fired because her employers found out she was accused of shoplifting and they found this out during 'routine employee background checks'. I thought these checks are done during employment or for promotion purposes. Obviously I'm wrong but I'm so freaked out due to the industry I work for. I know I should have thought about this before shoplifting but I didn't and I'm trying to see exactly where my living hell will land me. Thank you to all who share their knowledge.

Most financial industry companies do this frequently. There is no rule on this………….many companies in all industries do this quarterly this days. They simply subscribe annually and don't pay extra to check BG records……….SO they do it as often as possible…….that is a new trend which is not limited only to sensitive industries………So, there is no rule per industry………..it depends on your employer's HR policy.

Employers do background checks as often as they think it necessary. Some might do it once at hire and never again; others might do it several times a year.

It depends entirely on the employer.

Goodluck..........you might get lucky...Be honest about it if asked.

Anytime............We all learn from mistakes. The greatness of a person is not measured by how high they rise but how high they rise when they fall.......
