I'll start out by saying that I am 17 years-old, drive a Mazda 3 SP (racy-looking car) and live in a college town. Driving my friends home from a movie I was stopped at an uphill stop sign with my manual transmission, put too much gas and squeaked the tires off of the slick white line painted there. Of course there was a cop sitting at the corner and immediately pulled me over, giving me the "Exhibition of Speed" ticket. This is my first ever violation (moving or not moving), I have no criminal record and do community service. I was very polite with the officer and didn't say anything besides "yes sir"...when he walked back to my car 20 minutes later he kindly told me I had a mandatory court date!!!!! I know kids that drink underage and get off easier than that. Naturally I'm freaking out because NOTHING like this has ever happened to me and my parents are, well, not very understanding. I just want to know what my options are and what will most likely happen to me :(

Depends on your state and what the lcoal judge normally does. In a college town it usually is very strict and this is a serious violation. Since you are under age one of your parents will probably have to go to court with you. Only a local attorney can tell you what to expect.

Serious violation? I understand if I had been doing donuts in an intersection endangering people, and I though court was to prosecute true criminals. I'll start looking up local attorneys

Bad drivers kill more people in this country than all the murderers put together.
