My father just passed away recently, he was a victim of a homicide. I have not had any contact with him for 18 years, so I don't know what his assets are. Is there anyway I could find that out. Also I need to know if the government provides any compensations for families of victims of homicide, and if they provide any financial support to me since I am a student.

Contact the court clerk in the district in which he lived to see if a will has been filed for probate.

Not sure about whether compensation is available. I would suspect that, if you hadn't had any contact with him for 18 years, he was not responsible for your maintenance, so you are probably not entitled to any government support. Conceivably you could file a wrongful death suit against the person who committed the crime.
