At the beginning of this year, the Child Support office in Flagstaff, AZ placed a charge on my account. To my calculations, it is in the amount of nearly $6600.00. I have made numerous attempts to get an explanation for this charge. To date, I have sent 4 faxed requests for a recalculation and explanation and have made over a dozen phone calls. After being told that a recalculation had been sent to be twice, and having no such document arrive, and after nearly 5 months had passed, finally something arrived. It was a complete payment history, and a statement showing that I still owed well over $3000.00. It did not include an explanation of the charge. After more phone calls, I have still received no response from the Child Support office whatsoever, except for that above-mentioned package.
In one of the phone calls with a customer service representative, I was told that a recalculation had been performed in March, in response to my first faxes, but that it had not been approved, and had sat for 2 months and so needed to be completed again. I can understand that mistakes happen, but I cannot understand why it would take over 5 months to explain where a charge came from.
My request is for advice on how to resolve this issue. I have arranged for a consultation with an attorney, not knowing what else to do at this point, but would rather not go down that road.
