I was recently arrested for petty larceny in CT, but I live in NY. I am 18, with a clean record. I was wondering if anyone had any information on how to make it more likely to get into a diversion program so that I can prevent this from going on my record.

Thanks

Is there anything else I could do, like community service, that might make getting into a diversion program more likely?

And also, are there any other ways a lawyer could get this to not go on my record? And roughly how much do you think a lawyer would cost for this type of case? The store has loads of evidence against me, but I assume I should plead not guilty in court, right?

These are questions for your Attorney. As I said entering this program does not guarantee anything just boost your chances. If your unwilling to enter this program then don't however you might be asked to enter it by courts or one similar.

Should I plead guilty or not guilty when I go to court? My parents think I should just plead guilty and theyll be able to convince the judge to drop the charges, but that sounds kinda stupid and unlikely. Can I apply for Accelerated Rehabilitation instead of pleading guilty or not guilty?

I spoke to a lawyer and he said to do that.

i am also very curious to know if there are things that one could do to increase the chances of them getting into a diversion program.
any suggestions?

No one can guarantee anything but if you ask me enroling in an Anti shoplifting course I would think would help greatly. I recommend the one offered by NASP. I can put you in touch with their Director if you like just send me a PM
