What is the best, or fastest way to possess a property that has been abandoned?
It is located in a rural area, 1 acre, run-down shack is the only building.
Taxes are many years behind.
Aside from purchasing it at the tax sale in years to come (which I'm not guaranteed), is there a means via estoppel, or constructive notice, etc that I can establish possession?
I don't expect the owners to come back, but all the same, I want to follow the letter of the law.

Anyone?
At least point me in the right direction.
I'd like to get started on possessing this property as soon as possible.
Could there be a common law way to do it?

either there's no one out there in law land, or you don't have an answer, or you don't want to tell me what hte answer is.

whatever the case is, i'm outa here................

I know of no way to steal real estate.
