I own and operate a small community/political website.
A user under a pseudonym posted nasty things about individuals and their political party, which the complaintans say is libel/slander. I'd agree that some nasty things were said, some of which may be untrue. I pulled the post when they complained (as I feel I should have) so as to not be a part of the problem.
Their lawyer sent me a letter compelling me to turn over the IP logs. I asked a lawyer buddy and he said to turn them over unless I have a reason to harm the "victims" or if I have a good reason (and money) to try to protect the author.
I'm ready to share the IPs, but wanted a second opinion. I use my real name on my forums (as do others) so as to be on our best behavior.
What do you think?
