I was served papers stating that I have 21 days to respond. This is a very old debt. It has been placed on my credit report and after seven years it was removed. now 3 years later they are trying to sue me. Can they do that? is there a time limit on these things. How do I file the papers in responce to this. Is this against the fair credit laws?

Do not ignore the summons.

Prepare an answer to every paragraph.

Then add that the debt is outside the statute of limitations (if, indeed, it is) and ask that the case be dismissed.

Give an original to the court and copies to the judge.

Show up for court when you are supposed to.
