Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft I have a question...

I was caught shoplifting 2 months ago. It was my first and last time doing it. I have paid the fine over a month ago. I haven't gotten anything else in the mail. What is the likelihood they would still charge me?

What state are you in? How much did you steal? Did they call the police? Was it a department store (please do not mention the name)? Did they tell you that they were going to charge you? Did you give them the correct address? Sometimes these things take months before the courts get the paperwork and assign a court date.

If you do get a court date in the mail, get a criminal defense attorney that specializes in theft.

If your state has an online court database (many do) go there and run your name to see what charges you have pending. If you tell us the state, we may be able to assist you in finding the website for the courts.

I'm in the state of NJ. This happened in NY though. No police was called. It was a clothing store. It was a shirt worth $20. They didn't say they were going to charge me. They just told me that I will be getting a civil demand letter. That I did and paid it in full over a month ago. I gave them the correct address and all the information of course. I got the civil demand letter already.
