I'm in Orange County California. I just received my third award of exemption. I just want to be sure it's over.
I had two separate collectors attempting to collect on two different old credit card debts. They had sent their paperwork to an old address so I never got any of it. I missed the original court summons because of this.
The first garnished my wages which I then filed a "claim of exemption" which they did not respond to so I won by default.
The second garnished my bank account so I filed a "Claim of exemption" siting to workers compensation funds being exempt. They then garnished my wages which I filed a "claim of exemption", they protested, we got a court date, but they pulled a "No Show" so again I won by default.
I was told by a Non-expert that the collectors, having won the initial decision against me can still come after me over and over again for ten years. Is this true or do the awards of exemption kill the issue forever. If it's bad news, how can I get back into court to get the original decisions reversed or overturned?
Thanks very much to anyone with a definitive answer from a position of certainty.
