I made a mistake, how long do I have to pay for it?

I work for a medical record copy service. By accident I sent records to the wrong person (Mr. X). Mr. X went through the phone book and called all of the people with Mrs. Y's last name. They called the dr's office and the dr's office called my office. I have been suspended indefinitely. I would rather they just fire me so that I can file for unemployment while I look for another job? My boss will not tell me what's going on, he just says looking into it. Do I have choices or rights?

You may not get unemployment anyways. This is a Gross HIPPA violation and even if you are fired, the company can appeal the unemployment and they probably will. You'll have to wait it out.

Do you think the fact that it was unintentional makes it better somehow? It doesn't. In some ways it makes it worse because it shows that you weren't paying attention to what you were doing and got careless with other people's confidential information.

Your boss can take as long as he chooses to do the investigation. Your right is to file for unemployment and pray to the good Lord that the claims adjuster is in a good mood the day he or she gets your claim.

You can also just quit and go get another job. Any job you get likely pays more than unemployment anyways.
