My jurisdiction is: WA

Ok, so I was recently caught stealing a necklace ($35) from JC Penny's. I admitted it, signed all the paperwork and everything, and submitted a written statement. The officer arrested me, but decided to let me go once outside the store. I don't know exactly what's gonna happen from here on...but my questions are:

a) What are my options in court?

b) Can I just pay a fine (max amount?) and be done with it?

c) Will this come off my record? Or can I plead for leniency to keep it off my otherwise clean record?

In short plead not guilty or guilty. It would be wise to consult an Attorney before court to discuss options like diversion

You don't get to decide the law the Judge does. Count on a Civil and a Criminal fine, probation, community service for certain. There might be classes as well. They are not free

Ask your Attorney about Diversion. You can also visit the website (link) in my signature line it will take you to a site for accused shoplifters to get answers
