I have been married for 24 years,3 Children 24,20,and18 years old.The last several years my wife and I have just been living together, not really being married. I have tried counseling and doctors to try and see if we can fix our problems. We just can not be married any more.I would like to get advice about alimony and child support. My youngest son will be going away to college this summer. We have a mobile home together and the property that it sits on. I am willing to pay the house note and car note for her. But I really think that we need to go our seperate ways.

I am sorry for your troubles. What state are you posting from? If you google your state laws on divorce and child support that may help you find the information you are looking for. Does your wife work or has she ever worked? Is she healthy and able to work? Usually 18 is the cut off for child support unless in the divorce something is included about college costs and support. I would think the support money would go to the child not the wife as he is 18.

I live in Texas, She does work as a teachers aide and has for about 10 years, She is in fairly good health.

Since your youngest child is 18, you are not obligated to pay support on the child unless you agree too. Just because the child is in college does not mean support is owed.

You really need to see an attorney. This long term marriage means you have a very good chance of paying alimony but in order for mom trying to take everything, an attorney should be able to help.
