I ve resently been threaten to be sued over a car I was buying from a friend.
Back in mid Oct. My car broke down. I had been discussing buying my friend/coworker's car for months prior. My car breakdown eccelerated things. He let me drive the car home that night. I started that weekend to make the car payments and put it on my insurance at the end of the month. His finance company said he had to wait a specificate amount of months to transfer the loan. Which would be Dec.-Jan. We never wrote anything out and I gave cash to my trusted friend who had the payments on auto draft. Well Dec. 2nd. the car is stolen. I file the claim with my insurance as I continue to make car and insurance payments. But a few weeks ago we have a serious falling out. Friendship is done. The next night his wife(soon to be ex) calls me to let me know that I should look into getting the car loan transfered, because she's closing the joint account since he's been taking money out and she can't pay her rent. A few days later as I'm about to finish up the insurance claim, they find the car. I pick it up, take it home and call the insurance company. All the while, we re not on speaking terms. He calls me on Feb. 2nd saying he wants the car back and i have to take over the loan and pay him the down payment and all the previous payments that he made before me or he ll take me to court. I gave him the keys. What do I do with that?

I personally would not have given him the keys. Don't worry about going to court, he can sue you but he can't win. His theory of recovery is bizarre. If I were you I would want the car or the payments you paid back.
