Hello I was at an apartment complex a year ago under a month to month lease. The management went to a new company while I was under my month to month lease. I left while this new company was in charge. This new company now is saying I owe as if I was on their lease. However, either way I put in my 30 days notice. The letter I sent to the manager of my 30 day notice has been acknowledged by the manager and I have a copy of the acknowledgement that they sent me that day. The only lease that was signed was the original lease, which was month to month . This new management are trying to say that I owe over 3 months rent, even though I gave my 30 days notice, that they acknowledged and replied to. Also it appears as if money has been added on, taken off, then added on several times. I have SEVERAL conflicting documents sent from this new management and each paper has a different figure. I owe the people nothing. I have ALL the documents incase I need a lawyer.
This new company now has sent me a letter saying there is a possibility I'd have to attend a court date AND it would be attached to my credit. I do not owe them ANY of this extra money they are trying to steal from me. I was sent a letter saying they are still going to put well over $3,000 on my credit if I do not pay it. I have tried to get in touch with the managers of the apartment and the company that managed the apartment both before and after. Neither have been willing to assist me in resolving the issue to any degree. Someone is always out of office or in a meeting. This has been going on for the past two months! I was wondering if there is anything someone can do to assist me in this situation. I was trying to by a house by the end of the year but I fear because of their negligence I will not be able to.
My experience at this apartment was HORRIBLE. We were not able to move in starting at our original date. We were given a new date to move and and some how the downstairs was flooded with water. When we finally were able to move in we wish we had recognized the signs and stayed away. We had to deal with daily swarms of cockroaches. We tried to call someone to take care of them but were told it was up to the apartment people. They NEVER tried to address the situation. Our car was towed several times for no reason at all right from in front of our door! The ceiling was dripping water from the upstairs and the paint actually started to fall off! Maintenance was an abomination. Their idea of fixing the sink was us having to manually switch the knob from hot to cold in the pipes! Our water heater nearly killed one of the gas utility workers. We were told if we had waited a week the tank would have killed us either from explosion or from the gases alone, all of that is in his report if needed to be pulled up. Those were his words. To make things worse we have an infant and several other kids with us through all of this. The last straw was their lack of security at the complex. Because of this AT LEAST two murders occurred within the same block of our house. Just FEET from us a resident decided to take his life and that of his wife! Bullets were found THROUGH several windows including next door to ours.
When we tried to move SEVERAL times through out the span of a year we were constantly turned down. When we finally asked why after about the 12th time they said the current landlord (the new company) told them we owed them money, which we did not. We were lucky enough to find a couple that understood our situation and we put in our 30 days notice there. This is when they decided to pull the lucky number $3,000 out of no where. The couple allowed us to move ANYWAY and this figure that came out of no where is still lingering around. Is there any legal actions i can take towards the complex manager AND the company that manages her? We had to live in constant filth living there and it appears as if their odor is still trying to follow us. I would like some legal advice please thank you.
