I paid off a debt 2 years ago and they refuse to close the judment

Ok over two years ago there was I guess a settlement put against me. I paid off the debt through a settlement, through the law firm that held the debt. I recieved a letter from the origional debtor that they received the final payment and the the account was settled in full. I also have a receipt from the law firm that also shows the debt was paid off. Furthermore i have a copy of my credit report that shows that the account was settled and closed 6/2007. Recently I applied for a mortgage and found out that there is still an open judgement against me for this account. When I contacted the court house they confirmed that they never received notification from the law firm nor the origional debitor. I called both the law firm and the origional debitor and both are saying they sent in the paperwork and will not resend it. So I recontacted the court house and they asked if any of the leters I had were notorized which in this case they are not. what can I do??? THis is the only thing holding up my mortgage.

Go get a release of judgment signed and notarized by the lawyer/clients that you paid off. Go do it for them and take it to the Courthouse to be recorded. If you don't like that send the lawyer's a letter certified that says they have 10 days to satisfy the judgment or you are suing their client for damages.

The only problem is that I live in PA and they are in maryland. It is at lelast a five hour drive to get the the law office.
