I hold a supervisor position at my company and was told by employees that someone was stealing. This was told to our security staff and the theft kept on going but with all thier cameras they never caught anyone. Now i put in a camera without the consent of my manager or any other higher level boss becuase i didn't know who i would be catching. After three weeks of recording i caught one of the secuirty guards going into an area(where most of the theft had gone on) in the hours before the normal workers came in, on tape he is walking out of the area with a box.
I showed this video to the head of security, he in turn showed it to the guard. I was then told that i was wrong and that i could be fired for what i did so I was asked to remove any and all cameras. I was also instructed to delete the video.
Now, the guard has had someone from our IT department for the last three days go through my computer which was where i showed the video of him.
Also the security cameras don't stop following my every step.
I want to know if i can be demissed for putting a hidden camera?
And if i am in my right what should be my next step?
