Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft I shop lifted in a mall in Illinois and I'm a minor.

I am sixteen and i made the incredably dumb mistake of shoplifting out of anger. I was by myself. I felt guilty about ripping the censor off the pants so i put them back, but forgot i had a hat in my purse. I was caught and taken in the back. Once asked several questions, the police asscorted me in handcuffs to a station. i got finger printed and asked questions and then i went home. They said something about a fine and lawyers but i don't really understand. What will happen to me and what do i do?

Your question as two answers as you are talking about two things

The fine mentioned is a Civil action retailers take called "Civil Demand" the amount varies by state and dollar value of what you stole.

Your other issues is criminal for the theft and (I assume) damage of the merchandise. Without knowing the state and dollar value of theft its hard to say what will happen or what your actions should be. Knowing what your charged with will help as well. You do need a Lawyer though so you can plan a defense and/or plea deal to minimize the penalty
