I stole something expensive at a big well known store. I was walking out w/ the stolen items in my backpack and the alarm went off. The lady told me I was in trouble and to wait right there. I was so scared I knew if I stayed I'd get busted big time. So I ran. As fast as I could, got to my car and drove off. They have my face on camera for sure. Almost positive they didn't see the car I got into, or my license plate.

So now I'm very worried. What will happen? What should I do? If I go back in there w/ the item, I will get punished for sure. I had to open up the item and toss its case to get it into my backpack... So I already can't turn it back intact.

Will the cops be looking for me? I left a soda behind... would they check for prints? or is that just for murders etc.?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

There are multiple ways they could find out who you are. You will never know for sure until the statute of limtations runs out. Thats one to two years for a misdemeanor. Longer for felony.

Thanks for your reply.

I imagine if nothing happens within a couple of weeks to a month. Nothing will happen. Unless I go back to the store, or someone who works there and really cares (probably only a few employees would actually remember my face) saw me while they were off work.(?)

What ways could they find me? How do stores usually go about dealing w/ these types of things?

Thanks

Like I said they have one to two years not weeks! They could file the charges and and let Police worry about it. Meaning if you are involved in routine traffic stop or the like you could be arrested. Ways they can ID are way too numerous to to list them all. Here are but a few

Someone knows you tells
You made a purshcase using a credit card or the like
They got your plates (many stores have CCTV in parking lot)

I have a CCTV camera, when positioned right, can read the station on your radio in your car.

They probably have your plate #, next knock at the door could be the cops.....
