I was closing with my manager at the end of the night and I had a backpack with full of papers, books, and my bag for gym clothes (I'm a college student). I have stolen stuff from work before and felt really bad about it, so I promised myself never to do it again. Well at the end of the night, we both closed the store and we checked our bags. When she looked at my stuff, she asked to see the main pocket of my bag again. I think she thought I took something, but she didn't do anything about it. We parted ways after that. When I checked my bag when i got home, I looked at my bag again and saw that my bag of gym clothes looks like a product that we sell at the store. A lot like it actually. It's only been a few days since that night. Since I've stolen stuff before, I been really paranoid, but we don't have cameras on the floor or our stockroom. We were outside too, and it was dark, but well lit. Nor do we have have a security alarm system. Can she outright fire me without doing an investigation or formally accusing me? Should I pretend that nothing happened until she calls me into the office? Am I making a big deal out of nothing??

By the way, I work for a large company in Washington. It's not a local business.

Now in order to charge you the store must have evidence of the theft of DA will likely drop case. One thing I want to tell you though is "never" assume your employer does not have cameras, they might and they could be hidden from view. If there is any evidence of your thefts video, witinesses, paper trail etc you can be charged. If your concerns on firing issues then try our sister site they have a labor law section there
