I was stupid.

Here's a little history of what happened.

I worked with someone to fix computers. I am going to call him John.

John gave me some laptops to fix for his customers, after having them in my possession for months I threw them away. I realize this was so stupid, but I wasn't thinking. I also lost my job recently and this individual promised a job for me, and since he didn't come through I lost my apartment, my wife had to move in with her parents, my phone and internet.

We had NO contract of me fixing his PCs and he has a personal security camera of me coming to pick it up that he told me he will use as "evidence"

He says he isn't pressing charges but he sent me a text saying "I'm still trying to figure out how to handle the matter." and that was after he told me to call customer and try to pay them off.

What is my options here?

If you stop blabbing, John has nothing he can prove that you did anything wrong.
If you play dumb, what can his video prove?
Have you seen the video?
John's bluffing.
Stop blabbing, and say, "What computers? I don't know nothing 'bout no lousy computers!"

I am not going to get into the moral aspects of 2 people apparently struggling to make money. That said, you have the right to remain silent and not discuss the issue with anyone. Used laptops that are broken are basically outdated and due to technology are usually not worth the cost to repair. Any lawsuit would require he not only prove you responsible, but prove a value the court will accept. Shut your mouth and look for a better way to earn a living.

You shouldn't have thrown them away but agree do & say nothing. It's "not likely" you will be sued.

I won't discuss the moral issue but you need to exercise your right to remain silent. This includes text, email, calls etc

He threatened to press charges on me, saying that I will go to jail. I am 20 and was living on my own, but he brought my parents in and worked out that I would pay him back. Should I just cease all contact? I have before, and the only text message I sent was "I'd like to call customer, please give me number." and he has not talked to be since.

I have listened my friend.

I have a question though. If he does call the police and report theft, what would happen?

If he called and alleged a theft had occurred, a savvy thief, if asked gives the SGT SCHULTZ of Hogan's Heroes fame answer: I KNOW NUSSING COL HOGAN, NUSSING.

Silence and ignorance are very good friends. You can't stop him or the police from doing whatever it s they do, but don't help them. STOP BLABBING and DON'T DO STUPID STUFF.

If he files would I get arrested?

He can't file.
He can complain to the police.
The DA would file, if the evidence is clear and compelling.
Unless you keep blabbing, the evidence is neither clear or compelling.
He has ZERO evidence, unless you CONFESS.

Depends on the type of charges. If criminal charges are brought, then yes. If civil charges are filed, then you would be served with noticed.
