I want my money back

I paid a building contractor a 9,000 USD deposit on some replacement windows and a replacement door. The contractor has repeatedly made arrangements to repay me, having been unable to complete the manufacture of the windows and doors. Now he has stopped answering his phone. It is 6 months since I paid him.

I live in Westchester county NY and want to know whyat my options are to get the money back.

I have the contractors home address and an alternate phone number and a written signed contract.

First write a very buissness like, certified letter, to this person giving him/her a proper amount of time to return your $. File your lawsuit directely after your time limit, before they file bankruptcy.

Diesel has given some good advice. But this isn't necessarily a small claims suit. There is a limit and you may need to file in civil court to recover the entire amount.
