I made a right turn at a four way stop one night, at a redlight. Soon after, I noticed a cop car coming up behind me. After I had pulled over, he approached my car and said, "You did everything wrong. You paused at a stop sign and ran a light!" After he asked for my license and registration, he went back to his car and stayed there a good 20 minutes.........for what I don't know. When he finally came back to my car he handed me a citation and told me when to be in court, however , he said that I did not to have to appear, and that I could just mail a check into the courts. I am aware that I need to go in and speak my mind. Do I really need legal representation for this incident or would I be able to get through it w/o a lawyer. BTW, the incident happenend at night and the trooper wrote on the ticket AM, also, there is not any stopsign at that 4 way stop, even though he said I ran one. Then too, there was/is not any sign saying that you can not make a right on red. How often does state troopers show up in traffic court as he turned out to be one. I read the reason why he stopped me on the citation but it does not make sense to me. It reads: By entering an intersection while a stoplight was emitting a steady redlight for traffic in the defendant's direction of travel. I never entered that intersection as I made a right turn. The trooper leaves the impression that I ran a red light through the intersection. Is there no justice? It was infraction number GS 20-158(b) (2)
