About an hour ago I pulled into a gas station, filled up, pulled out, and was turning into McDonalds and a cop flip his lights on. I had seen him at the gas station and saw him follow me out but I did nothing wrong. He came to my window and asked me if I was someone else and I said no. The person he was asking about has the same last name but we are'nt related. He said I looked like him and asked for my license. He came back and gave me a ticket for a suspended license. Then asked me if I knew the other person with the warrant. I said no. Then he searched my vehicle for drugs and weapons, neither of which I own. He showed me the picture of the guy he was looking for and asked again if I knew him. I said no. The guy looked nothing like me and there was no way he could have known we had the same last name until he looked at my ID. I was polite the entire time even though I didnt think it was right. Is it legal for him to pull me over for nothing? I have a court date in a month and am curious about my rights. Any info would be appreciated.

p.s.-- I know because of the suspended license thing this sounds like I'm whining but that is the only thing I have ever done wrong. it was for failing to pay a ticket for not providing my ID when I was pulled over in another city for NOTHING. I had a license, it just wasnt on me. Just forgot to pay the fine.

It is perfectly legal for Law Enforcement to question you if you look like a wanted person. The Officer acted within his restrictions and as far as the search we were not present and so cannot say but did he ask you if he could search and did you consent? From my view I rather be stopped because I looked like someone then for that person to be ignored and harm someone
