My mother, uncle, and I were sitting in my kitchen. My mother was sitting on the opposite side (quite a distance away) I was sitting on the bar stool and my uncle was sitting closest to me at the computer. My mom and I were arguing over something trivial and my uncle got involved. I told him to mind his business because he wasn't my father and shouldn't start acting like one now. We argued for about 2 minuted when he got up out of his chair and walked over to me and started yelling in my face. I told him to get out of my space and he responded by putting his hands around my neck as if to choke me. Then instead of applying force to my neck he grabbed my arms and dragged me out of the chair and continued to push me and grip my wrists extremely tightly. I yelled at him to get his hands off of me and that I was going to call the cops. He laughed and said fine they aren't going to do anything. I got my phone and ran outside and called 911. The police got there and said that because my mother didn't tell him to stop and because she told them I was going to attack her it was legal because my uncle was preventing me from attacking her. (I had no intention of attacking her; I never got out of my chair or threatened her and was only out of my chair when I was dragged from it.) I don't understand how it can be legal for him to assault me and not have anything happen to him for it. I called child protective services and they said it's not their department. I don't know what to do, but I will not accept that this is legal. I'm sixteen years old and live in the state of Maine.
