Howdy,
My fiance has a standard lease agreement for the apartment she is in. We were waiting until the lease was up in November to have her move in with me, but there is a problem. She lives in Houston and does not have power in her apartment due to hurricane Ike. The power company says it will be three to four weeks before they have power. Is she able to break her lease because of this or do we still have to wait. In addition, she will no longer be my fiance as of this Sunday because we are getting married. We don't want to cause problems with our credit, so we intended on paying until the lease was up, but we would like to save that money if we can.

Thanks in advance

No.

I am sure she has already given notice that she will no longer be living there - some states require that you notify the landlord 60 days before the lease expires. If she has already done that and the management company has not in any way made any temporary arrangements to restore power, she can see if management will make an exception and release her. Now, bear in mind that with the credit crunch that we are going through everywhere, they probably won't work with her, but it all depends on who you are working with. Good luck to you all and much happiness!
