Illegal Deduction

I live in Quincy, MA and I was wondering if it's legal for an employer to deduct money from your check if you have been wrongly accused of stealing money. The employer claims that the safe was stolen, but they have not filed a police report (it's been two weeks since the incident). The employer stated that he will be deducting the money from employees next paychecks. I have tried finding the federal and state law with no luck. I tried looking under the Wage Deduction for Faulty Workmanship, Loss, Theft or Damage.

I'm hoping that someone can provide me with the statue for federal and/or state law.

Call the wage and hour department of the state. Tell them what is happening. The employer can not deduct money if you do not sign for it.

Correct. They should have a form on your states web site for the department of labor, you want a form for wages not paid. There should be a box on the form to mark for deductions.

I had to fill out some papers for North Dakota in which I wasn't paid any overtime(84 hour weeks) and they cut my pay by $145/day without warning, then fired me lol. The department of labor is all over them. :angel
