Alcohol & Drugs: MIP, MIC, Intoxication Illegal Posession of Alchohol

I was riding in a car last night with a couple of my friends to a party on campus. Our driver had barely anything to drink, and got pulled over for not using his turn signal in our neighborhood. They made him do a sobriety test and the cop told him he did not believe he only had on drink, so he still arrested him for drinking and driving. He ended up sitting in the back of the car awhile and sweating a lot. When he got to the jail and had to do a breathalyzer, he passed. The officer took him back to the house and he was not charged with anything. After the officer arrested my friend the officer came and asked my two friends and myself to get out of the car. He patted us down looking for drug possession and did not find anything. When he searched the car we had a couple of cups with alcohol in them. Therefore, we got written up for illegal possession of alcohol, which I assume it is the same as MIP. If I am wrong about that please let me know. I wanted to know if we could fight this offense since our friend who got pulled over and arrested got brought back home because the officer could not charge him. One of two of the open containers we had in the car were his and we were just holding them for him until we got to the party. I need advice on weather to get an attorney and try to fight this or just to plead guilty and pay my fine. My biggest concern though is getting a suspension of license. Will I get a suspension of license since this is my first offense?
