Hello - I was late in finding this site. Anyway heres the story. Back in 2000 , I used to hang out at a convenient store in ohio where a friend worked and sometimes ring the register for him. The police ran a sting operation once and I got a ticket for selling cigarettes to a minor ( Ohio Revised code 2927.02 ) misdemeanor 4th degree. I didn't know it was misd or anything and was just told you will be asked to appear in court.

I never recieved anything and last week i got a letter from ohio bmv that there is a warrant and my license is blocked. Not knowing what is it for - i went to court and found out and took a next day court date as i didn't have any other vioilations ever for anything. They told me it will be just a fine. And sure i plead no contest and was fined 60$ + court fees. But now i am worried. I am an engineer by profession and nothing has come up in all these years when i joined this company A in 2001. Is this a really bad offense / conviction that I should be very concerned about . I will surely want to expunge it but it will take a year.

Please advice.

Anyone ?? Should I have plead not guilty or did I have a chance to keep my record clean ?? I am a potential immigrant ( I do know that these is not a crime that will cause much of a problem except interview ) but i still worry about it as wwhen I look for new jobs i have a criminal record.

Could anyone give any insight in such conviction of such a crime here in the US.
