Shoplifting, Larceny, Robbery, Theft I'm 18 in Utah got a retail theft ticket.?

I got a retail theft ticket, got fingerprinted in the cop car but didn't get taken to jail or anything & I'm 18 I turn 19 in 3 months. The item was under $8. Will I nee a public defender? I can't afford a lawyer & don't want my parents to know at all!! Can I get this taken off my record after I pay the fines? I know there are things like first time offenders things and a class you can take but I just don't want this to go on my record at all!! Any help would be great :)
 
How do I get a public defender? Do I get one before I go to court? Or will I get one after I go to court for the first time? I need from start to finish answers pretty much. This is the first time it has happened to me.
 
Step A: Show up to court wait for your name to be called
Step B: After Judge calls you plead not guilty and ask for Public Defender
Step C: Judge will instruct you what to do and give you new court date


Will that suffice?

So go to court when judge asks guilty or not say not guilty and then ask judge for
public defender! Thanks.
Wait.. How do I find one? or will they help me?
 
Wouldn't it just be better to plead guilty then ask the judge to reduce charge? Or tell him its first offense can he not put it on my record?
 
You dont make deals with Judge! The Attorneys do then present it to Judge. If you walk in plead guilty Judge will sentence however he feels. Thats pretty big gamble
