My jurisdiction is: Indiana

In September of last year i caught phenomena and i was in bed sick as a dog for five days, after all that i still wasn't getting any better so i went to the hospital. I live at home with my mother i have no job and i was on a break from school so my insurance didn't cover anything. I called all the places telling them my problem that i have no money im broke and i can't pay and now the radiologist is sueing me for $804.59 i have to got to go to court on the 21st of October and i have no idea what to do, i have no money for a lawyer and i have no money to even think about bankruptcy, i have tried to get a job, it is not easy especially with this demand of moving constantly its not easy with someone with a disability. What i am asking is for some tips or advice to help me get through this, it is not long till the other people sue me as well and well im confused im only 21, i was under the assumption that my dad payed for everything for me till i was 21 and i got out of the hospital 14 days before i turned 21, so what should i do, if i was in school i wouldnt be in this situation but it still shouldn't matter. My dad told me to call all the places and they should right it off, and i did so and all of them said we dont do that here we only except for me to pay it off in monthly things but how can they sue someone with not even a dime to his name.

They will never just write it off. What you needed to do was start sending them something, even if it's just a few dollars at a time. It shows a willingness to pay.

However, that's the past, so here's where you are now. Ultimately what will end up happening is you will end up with a judgment against you. So, you pay it a little at a time, with whatever you can. You can call a lawyer and talk to them for free, but I really don't think you are going to get out of this.

Now it's time to be honest with yourself. You can find a job. Even if it's at McDonalds, there are jobs out there. They may not be great, but they are out there. The economy is killing career jobs, but other jobs are there. When you do get a job, they will end up garnishing your wages, which means they take some of your paycheck to go toward the judgment. However, they can't garnish this until they find out where you work.

How did you think your Dad was paying for this? Did you talk to him?

The issue is it sounds like you are on this woe is me pitty party, I can't find a job. Sounds more like I can't find a COOL job, or I can't find a job I LIKE. In all of this, are you partying while in college? I don't mean to be harsh, but it's time to grow up.

Also, you've been going along without a job thus far. So when you do get a job, you need to just go ahead and cash your paycheck each week, and put the whole thing toward the judgment, or if it's before the court date, start paying the doctors. Just make sure you get receipts for the payments. Even with a part time job, you might actually be able to pay this off before the court date. You'll still have to go, but it's less messy.
