So here's the jist of it. I carry health insurance on my children and a stepdaughter (that lives in another state). Historically, her Mother takes her to the Dr., and sends us a copy of the bill, of which we are responsible for one half of anything not covered by insurance. Recently, I received a copy of a bill for $105.00 for a routine eye exam on my stepdaughter. Since the copay should have been $20.00, I waited a few weeks thinking the insurance hadn't been filed yet. 3 week later I receive another "bill" this time stating that if I don;t pay in 2 weeks they will send my bill to collections. I questioned why the amount of $105.00 and reviewed the insurance information. It turns out they billed the insurance co, but submitted the claim with a false number (1 number off) they copied the insurance card, but apparently it wasn't too clear. I asked them to resubmit. Next day I receive a message on my machine saying that it's too late for them to stop collections because now I gave them this "new" number and insurance won't pay by the collections date. She threatened that this will go on my credit report, an "I don't think it's worth it for $105.00, do you? "This says on your report for 7 years you know." 1) They made the error in filing, aren't they responsible?
2). This date of service was from Sept 4 2007. Mom received several bills, I received my 1st in January. Any advice is appreciated!

you can dispute it on your credit report as "late due to ins. company payment". as long as it gets paid, the creditor won't bother with filing an answer to your dispute, and it will get removed.
