I recently made the biggest mistake of my life and can honestly say I don't know why I did it.

I had gotten caught stealing at a retail store (this was my FIRST TIME and last). The total of stolen items came out to be 52 dollars which meant they had to ccontact the police. I had to sign a paper saying I agreed to what I did and the two witnesses signed as well. Once the police officer came, he asked me questions and what happened. I was not arrested, I had just received a ticket which stated I had to go in for pictures and fingerprinting and a court date. Does this mean it is going on my permanent record? Do I have no possibilities of HYTA, ACD, diversion, or my charges reduced? AAlso I currently have a job which I was scanned for background check previously. Does this mean my boss will find out?? What do I do?! I am so scared that I just messed my entire life up over one stupid mistake.

You need to get a lawyer. He/she will get you the best outcome possible. Discuss your options with the lawyer. It's possible your employer could find this out.

As you describe the situation I would say you have an excellent chance of handling this at the lowest level possible without much impact on your life.

Talk to your Lawyer about ACD or Diversion to see if these options are available in your county. Ask what they entail as they vary. Far as your employer goes it is possible they could discover this through a variety of means not just a criminal background report. If store you took from and your employer are subscribers to same retail theft database that's one way. If your employer is also a retailer its possible the LP who stopped you knows LP at your employer to name two
