We rented a house and there is an above ground pool. No where on the lease agreement does it reference the pool and who is responsible. Who is responsible for the pool? If it isn't listed in the lease, are the owners responsible for the maintanence, etc?

Also, is there anything required by the owners to file with the state or city to rent out their home in PA? Like a certificate of occupancy? We thought it was strange that all the other utilities they didn't mind in our name, but they said they had to keep the water in their name. That didn't make sense to us because in CA we had rented a condo and had the water in our name.

Any info is appreciated!!

Why don't you ask who is responsible for the pool?

It's not unusual that an owner wishes to keep the water in their name. This is the case in most apartments and duplexes since there's typically only one meter to the place. In addition, many water companies will go after the owners if the tenants do not pay the water bill.

On one of the landlord forums I am on, a landlord from Pennsylvania has reported that in this state, the landlord is required to keep both the water and sewage in their name.
