If someone goes to the police with information regarding a person possibly selling alot of drugs(general) what security does the person coming forward have? Meaning if the dealer is convicted is it guaranteed that they will know who went to the police and will this person have to testify in person in front of the possibly convicted? Please help!

Thank you in advance

It is highly doubtful a conviction will become of an anonumous tip. Generally the police would schedule some sort of undercover raid. You cannot convict someone based on solely a tip.

An anonymous tip is, legally, worthless (for the most part). The most your anonymous tip could do would be to give the investigators some direction to look on their own. that tip might provide information on who to watch and when.

If you come forward and provide such detail that they make their case largely based upon your information, then you would almost certainly be called to court and your name would be in the open.

Contact the local drug task force or your agency's drug unit and find out what you can do to give information anonymously.
