Several years ago (5 or 6) I received notice from a law firm wanting me to hire them (for something like 30% of my "inheritence" ) to represent my interest in a case where I am a legal heir to part of an estate that was left without any direct heirs (the deceased was an umarried man with no children and was also an only child). He also left no will.
I declined this firm thinking that if I am legally entitled to any of the estate, I'll be found and notified by the State of Illinois.
I recently found out that my uncle (my father is deceased) did receive some money from the estate. My uncle did retain the law firm to reprsent him.
Will I be found by the state? Would I have had to "make a claim" to receive this money?
Thanks,
JC
