Innocent Shoplifting

I was with my brother at astore in southwest virginia.

He obviously stole something, because we found out on the way out the door. I was compleatly innocent and had no idea he was doing such an act. I am currently going to college to be a state trooper.

I have and never had any intentions on commiting a crime or being an assesory. Well as we was on the door some "civilians" blocked us from getting out the door and tried to detain me. Not to mention they never identified themselves and they also put their hands on my shoulder so I could not preceed going out the door.

I could 100% guarantee its all on camera too! Is this a legitimit lawsuit to go into? People are always forgetting that they are rights and laws that protect us citizens! So what do you think?

Would an "innocent shoplifting" be somewhat like an "innocent rape", an "innocent child molestation", or an "innocent murder"? LOL

Sorry, police officers, prosecutors, and judges hear that excuse all the time.

If you were detained by strangers NOT acting under the authority of a sworn law enforcement officer, that might indeed be a lawsuit.

You can discuss the incident with three or four local attorneys.
Most attorneys meet with prospective clients initially at no cost, but ask if cost is an issue.

I agree, people seem to forget they do have rights.
The two they seem to forget the most, "YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT", and "YOU HAVE THE RIGHT NOT TO GIVE YOUR CONSENT" when a cop asks to look around your vehicle, or search your pockets.

I suggest if you are ever confronted again, don't resist.
If the lynch mob wants to give you a good thumping, smile and take it.
WHY?
It makes a better case, and you'll have some real damages.

I am a Retail theft consultant and answer questions like yours daily. If your studying to be state Trooper you should already know you met criteria to be considered an accomplice. If you want to sue you need to know on what grounds and what your damages are.

What happened after you were detained & they put their hands on your shoulders? (What happened next?) What do you want to sue for? (What reason/grounds?)
