I was hired as a full time bartender at a piano lounge in October 2007. Around February 2008, they started cutting my hours into part time. I had taken the full time position for the health benefits. The deal was that the company I was working for payed 50% of the monthly charge and I payed the other half, which was to be automatically taken out of my paycheck. When they started cutting my hours, my bi-weekly paycheck wasn't big enough to cover my half of the payment. The owners told me that they would cover my half of the payment, and would discuss other options for me to pay them back later. On July 4th 2008 I decided to quit that place, because I wasn't scheduled to work for the following 3 weeks, and the manager avoided me all day when I tried to ask her why I wasn't scheduled to work. Needless to say, the discussion about how I would pay the owneers back never took place.
I visited my doctor for a routine check up June 2008. I used my insurance card. My insurance payed the cost at the time. Now I am getting a bill in the mail from my doctor's office stating that my insurance company requested a refund because my insurance policy expired May 2008.
My question then is, shouldn't I have been covered by my insurance policy until atleast the end of June? What should I do about my medical bills? What action can I take against my ex-employer?
