I recently had a privacy fence built at the house I moved into. I received a proposal that stated the job would cost $3000. The fence was built and when the invoice was sent to me, it was for $4100. I called to find out what was going on and the owner told me that it was a typo. I told him that I did not feel that was right and asked what the typo was and he can't explain. I would be more receiving to the typo if it was off by a digit, but it isn't even close to a single or two digits being wrong. He won't accept the amount from the proposal of $3000 and said that he would pursue the collection of the full amount if I did not pay it but stated $3450 would satisfy the invoice. At first I thought this was reasonable and said that I thought I could do that, but while thinking about it, thought that he is taking me for a ride. If this was a typo, can they really take me to court and win when the proposal was sent to me, I signed and returned, and then paid the 25% deposit (based on the $3000) before the work started? There are two different places stating that 25% is due before and they state that they don't always require the 25%...doesn't make sense to me. There was three diffferent points when the "typo" could have been caught if it truly was a type. When it was sent to me, when I faxed the signed proposal back, and when I paid the deposit. Do I owe any more than the $3000? HELP!!! Thanks. Jeff
