IRS Tax Lein

I purchased a home with my boyfriend, and later found out he owed back taxes. A Lein was put on the house, and interest keeps adding up.
He is now in the final stages of cancer with only weeks to live and I want to know if the IRS will force me to sell the house to pay off his debt. What are my rights.

Go to the IRS web site. If you try to work it out with them, the IRS is usually "fair" about it. If you are not making any payments, you could have defaulted at some point without knowing.

The IRS can sell it to pay the back taxes and satisfy the lien. I would contact them asap and try to work something out. Tell the what is going on and why it got so far behind. Explain you would like to try to work something out.
