After hours of being harassed by a drunk acquaintence who was on probation and not allowed to drink as part of it, my friend called the police and had them go to her house. Seeing that she was drunk, they took her to jail. The question is this...When she called the police, my friend said that she wanted the call to be anonymous. The cops said it would be kept that way. Now the lawyer for the arrested party says that even tho the caller doesn't want their name given, he can get it from the police dept. and make her come to court regarding this matter. The friend that called it in is now worried about her name coming out and having the arrested party seeking revenge. Is it possible that the callers name will be disclosed by the police to the lawyer?? TIA!

Spotty, you are so busted!

Unless the DA agrees to keep the caller anonymous and by doing so, drop the charges, you are out of luck. The police might not want to release the name, but the defense attorney can subpoena the info.

Besides, if a caller is identified they are NOT - by definition - anonymous. And depending on your state law, they MUST be revealed upon request with few exceptions. Being embarrassed or ticking off an acquaintance is not cause for an exception.
