My question is this: I'm 3 months behind on a rental home that im living in. I'm moving out this weekend. I told my landlord that I had money coming in to get caught up on the back rent that I owe. This in fact want true I was just trying to buy time so that I could fine away to get the money owed. Have I done anything criminal at this point buy lying about money coming in? In other words is there anything I can be charge with in criminal court or by the attorney generals office?

Thanks

No but really, your landlord should have started the eviction process three months ago. They are being extremely generous still allowing you to live there.

If folks got thrown in jail for lying, most WOULD be in jail.

Yes I do agree I should have been kicked out a long time ago. He was telling me that if I didnt come up with the money by Monday that his friend at the attorney generals office was going to file charges agaist me for rental fraud. I have looked this up everywhere and have been able to come up with nothing. Thanks for the reply!

?Rental fraud? Good luck to the landlord on that one.

What they will find they should do instead is begin the process of eviction as outlined in the landlord/tenant laws in your state. Then turn around and file a lawsuit against you for owed rent.
