Is it Fair to Be Ticketed and Should I even have to pay?

I was on the freeway near my house coming home during the late hours and pulled over and ticketed for speeding. I was told that I was traveling 85 in a 65 mph zone. In reality I was speeding but so was everyone else around me. This is a freeway where the speed limit is from 55mph but NOBODY travels at or under the speed limit. I have traveled this highway nearly every day for the past 20 years at every single time of day and so I can personally vouch for this as can the thousands of other drivers that travel this route. During the day their are no police on the area as every driver tends to travel about 75-80mph give or take. At night the route is less crowded and so police have the ability to ticket whoever as their isn't an endless wave of cars. However, on this night for some reason there was a fair number of cars on the road and the driving habits were as usual with drivers traveling around 75 give or take. The problem that I am having is that I was ticketed among a group of cars in which I was traveling as fast as the cars in front of me or slightly faster (5mph greater) and yet I was the one that was pulled over and ticketed.
The worst part about it was that even though there were several cars around me going just as fast there was also a car in front of mine that was traveling faster than I was. I don't believe that I should be ticketed when I was in the middle of a group of cars going at the same speed and especially when the car in front was going just as fast meaning he passed the officers before I did and should have been pulled over instead.
There were several cars ahead of me going just as fast and yet I was the one that was ticketed. I am thinking of contesting the ticket due to these details and was looking for some advice and input from those with knowledge and experience.

The posted speed limit is 55MPH. The fact that you were the one pulled over amongst many violators does not take away the fact that you violated the posted speed. You don't have a lot here to contest... Good Luck!

Sorry, but the "everyone does it" defense really doesn't work - neither does the "I was going the speed of traffic" defense.

Depending on your state and the method used to determine your speed, you might have a defense, but this is not it.
