I am currently working in a health care office, I am an LPN, I work under the supervision of an RN. Our initial issue what that I do not have enough work to do and she works 15 -20 hours of overtime per week. She has admitted to having a problem trusting people and delegating duties. This caused a lot of turmoil because I am offering and willing to take on more responsibility but she refuses. In addition, I have spoken to management and had a meeting which was settled as her being told to give me more to do and her to work less overtime. That manager quit.
The new manager is this RN's good friend. I had another meeting with the new manager and told her I a have a lot of downtime but that the RN refuses to give me additional work and that I am frustrated and things are tense in the office because of this situation. Unbeknownst to me she has met with our COO 4 times in the last month and has told him and her friend the clinic manager that I am bullying her and that she is afraid for her physical safety and that she is afraid I am going to hurt her. I have never threatened her in any way, I have never raised my voice, I have never sworn at her, I have never cornered her, she is a foot taller than me and she is completely fabricating this story to get rid of me.
I met with the clinic manager and COO yesterday and they informed me that the RN has given them detailed information and because of that detailed information they don't think she could possibly outright lie. They will not tell me what exactly she said but I know it is a lie because I have done nothing! They then went on to say that they think we are just overstaffed and told me to take the next day off with pay and to write a list of what I have to offer that will make them money but won't take away any of the RN's duties to make them keep me on. They said this has nothing to do with the RN but the timing is impeccable.
For one, there is nothing I can do besides offer to do additional lab services to patients from our other clinics. They have other clinics but no openings so me moving to another office is not an option. If I took 25% of her workload, I would be very busy and she would have no overtime which would save them a lot of money. She does not want that however.
I have not been given an opportunity to defend myself because they will not elaborate on anything she specifically said, only that I have been disrespectful and I scare her! I have tried to give examples of why I think she is not mentally or emotionally stable but the don't want my side of the story. She cries several times a week, sometimes work related sometimes not, she is twice divorced and lives alone is in her late 50's. She disappears without telling anyone and sometimes for up to an hour.
She has expressed that she is not happy with her life or her job and has no where to go at the end of the day but her empty home and her dogs. I believe she sees me a threat. I don't want her job, I just don't want to lose mine. But now I have found out she has told these outright lies to all the management of my company and she acts super sweet and plays a good victim and I feel absolutely helpless. There are other people in my office that have witnessed her craziness and are going to speak on my behalf but I believe she already has them convinced.
I believe she has slandered my reputation as a person let alone as a nurse. My employer has no problem with my work ethic but she has told them that I go on the internet and that she has to room my patients because I am too busy eating breakfast at my desk...this is far from true. Yes, I check my e-mail at work, so does she and everyone else that works there. Yes, I sometimes eat at my desk, so does she and everyone else that works there. She explained it out of context. I have never not roomed a pt because I was too busy eating!
I am the one who is afraid of her and hte damage she is doing to my reputation, she has more time with this company. I am afraid she is going to do something crazy like file a restraining order which she would have no grounds to do and I don't think it would be accepted. She has connections in all of the healthcare systems in my city. I don't know what to do! Please help me!
